About the Plot Area Calculator
What does this plot area calculator do?
Indian land transactions use a confusing mix of units — square feet, square yards, square metres, acres, hectares, bigha, kanal, marla. This plot area calculator takes a simple length × width input in feet, metres or yards and converts the area into every common unit at once. It is ideal for buyers comparing plots listed in different states with different conventions.
Standard area conversions
1 square metre = 10.7639 sq ft; 1 square yard = 9 sq ft; 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft = 4,047 sq m; 1 hectare = 10,000 sq m = 2.471 acres; 1 bigha (north India standard) ≈ 27,225 sq ft (varies by state). These ratios are fixed by international standards for the metric and imperial units, but bigha varies between Punjab (9,070 sq ft), Haryana, Rajasthan, UP and Bihar — always confirm the local definition with your registrar.
How to measure your plot
For a rectangular plot, simply measure length and width along the longest two perpendicular sides and enter both in the same unit. For an irregular plot, divide the area into rectangles or triangles, calculate each separately, and sum the results. For very precise valuation, use the registered sale-deed dimensions or commission a licensed surveyor.
Why plot area matters for valuation
Property prices in India are quoted as ₹ per sqft (apartments and most urban plots), ₹ per sqyard (Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR), or ₹ per acre/bigha (agricultural and outskirts land). Knowing the area in every unit lets you compare deals like-for-like. Pair this calculator with our home loan calculator to estimate the EMI on the property you are evaluating.
